I believe that  “Raggamuffin”  is a story to be shared.  The adventures that lay ahead will be made available via this site so that everyone can follow our progress.

I have been lucky enough as the current custodian of Raggamuffin to obtain practically the whole history of this unique boat including the original plans.  I  have  the honour to personally know the engineer concerned  David Nisbet.  David recently sold his property in Essex and now lives in Portugal.

There are many photos of the construction process and also a CD showing the first tow by crane through a new housing estate in Essex and the eventual launch of  Raggamuffin.

This latest adventure is to travel the UK in a clockwise direction.

Raggamuffin is a steel sailing boat.  11 metres in length.  11 tons in weight.

John Moore and myself  have planned a passage around the British Isles in a clockwise direction.  Start date 5th May 2012 from Portsmouth.  There will be 2 stages.

Stage 1(2012)

Portsmouth to Largs Yacht Haven on the West Coast of Scotland in 3 months.

Stage 2 (2013)

With the knowledge gained from Stage 1 to continue up the Scottish coastline including the Shetland and Orkney Islands and then down the East Coast in about 6 weeks.

I met John through the Ashdown Sailing Club and after many cruises together throughout 2008 and 2009 we struck up a close friendship.  It was from here that we came up with the idea to sail around the UK.  We gave a club talk in March 2011 about “The Proposal”.  We were looking for crew from the club to join us throughout this proposed 3 month trip.  Any other club boats were welcome to join us in this adventure too.   There appeared to be some interested parties at the time and as a result of  this Tarasay Mor with owners Colin and Sandi Shiret will be joining Raggamuffin on this trip.

“The Proposal” also has a double meaning in that John and myself will be getting married on 28th April 2012.   What a year !!!!   Forget reality TV.

We hope you enjoy following us throughout this trip and send us your messages too !
